¿Falta algo? Marcalo a mano
Anonimizar no guarda esa contraseña.
Formato: Word (.docx), Markdown (.md) o texto plano (.txt).

Problemas frecuentes

How to use the Anonimizar desktop app, from your first document to daily use. The app's interface is in Spanish, so on-screen labels are quoted as they appear, with their meaning in English. Everything described here runs on your computer: your documents never leave it.
Getting started
When you open the app you see the Simple start screen: one place to drop documents, paste a text or pick a folder.
Drop one or more documents on the box, or use Elegir archivos… (Choose files). Word (.doc, .docx), PDF, Markdown and plain text are supported.
Choose how you want to work: Revisar dato por dato (Review item by item, recommended) or Rápido (Quick).
Review what was found and export. The document ends up with labels like PERSONA_01 or DNI_02 instead of the real data, ready to use with your AI.
First time? It's a made-up legal brief, it opens straight in the review and doesn't count against the free trial.
Top right, you can switch to the Avanzada (Advanced) view, with every tab visible: Archivos (Files), Texto (Text), Rápido, Carpeta (Folder), Revertir (Revert) and Historial (History). The app remembers your choice.
The side panel
100% local: a reminder that processing doesn't use the internet.
OCR local and Ollama: a coloured dot shows whether they're installed and in use (see OCR and local AI).
Documentos: the current batch. The + button starts a new one.
At the bottom: Preferencias (Preferences), Ayuda (Help), Acerca de (About), the version number (click = check for updates) and the light/dark theme switch.
With a document open, the panel collapses to icons to give the document room. The button at the top expands it again.
Review item by item
This is the heart of Anonimizar: nothing is exported until you confirm it. The app finds the personal data and shows the document with each item highlighted by type (person, place, ID number, organisation, contact), with the list of Datos detectados (Detected data) on the right.
Decide on each item
Sí (Yes): replaced by its label in the output. This is the default.
No: left visible in this document only.
Nunca (Never): added to your general exceptions and never anonymised in any future document. Use it only for non-confidential data (your firm's name, the court). Edit them in Preferences → Detección.
Click a highlighted item in the document to find it in the list, or click a row to see where it appears. The filters above the list show one data type. With the keyboard: ↑↓ move through the list and S / N decide and move on.
Something missing? Mark it by hand
If the engine missed something, select it in the text (mouse or Shift + arrows) and choose Anonimizar selección (Anonymise selection). Pick its type and, if the same text appears elsewhere, the app offers to mark every occurrence. The row is tagged «a mano» (by hand) and can be removed.
Group the same person Estudio
If one person ended up under two labels (say «Juan Pérez» as PERSONA_01 and «J. Pérez» as PERSONA_02), select the rows and use Agrupar (Group): they share a single label. You choose which one is the main one.
Confirm and export
Confirmar y exportar (Confirm and export) writes the anonymised document (where and in which format depends on Preferences). With several documents, Saltar → (Skip) leaves one for later. After exporting you can switch between Anonimizado, Original and Mapeo (Mapping, only with the map on), search the document and tick Confirmo que revisé (I confirm I reviewed it) to enable Abrir destino (Open output folder).
Review before sharing. Automatic detection isn't infallible. If the app flags a document in amber, it found something that may have been left visible: check it before using it.
Warnings you may see
PARCIAL (Partial): the PDF had image (scanned) pages that couldn't be read and so were not anonymised. Turn on OCR and process it again.
Redactions that didn't remove anything: the PDF had black boxes with the text still underneath. That text was read and went through detection, but it's worth checking. To check a redacted PDF without the app, use the redaction checker.
History
If you turn it on in Preferences → General, the Historial tab lists processed documents (name, folder, date and counts, never the content) so you can find them and reprocess them with your current preferences. If an output was edited by hand, the app asks before overwriting it.
Quick mode
One document, one click: it's anonymised instantly with your last settings and the result is shown on screen, without the review step.
Guardar (Save): on, the anonymised document is written to disk; off, you only see it on screen and nothing is saved.
Copiar (Copy) puts the anonymised text on the clipboard. Reprocesar runs it again if you changed something.
To switch documents, drop another one on top or press ⌘/Ctrl + O.
Quick mode doesn't run the local AI review. To check the result, Revisar dato por dato → opens the same document in the review.
A whole folder Estudio
In the Carpeta tab (or Una carpeta on the start screen) you drop or pick a folder and all its documents are processed.
Incluir subcarpetas (Include subfolders): also goes through the folders inside.
Validar cada documento antes de exportar (Validate each document before exporting): sends each one through the review. Without it the folder is exported directly; with individual files the review always runs.
At the end you get a summary of the batch. Outputs from earlier runs are skipped, so you can process the same folder again.
Paste a text
For an email, a clause or a query: Pegar un texto (Paste a text) on the start screen, or the Texto tab. Paste, click Revisar datos (or ⌘/Ctrl + Enter), review it like a document and copy the result. Nothing is saved to disk, except the map if you tick Guardar el mapa para recuperar los datos (Save the map to restore the data) and choose where.
Replacement map Profesional
By default Anonimizar is irreversible: it keeps nothing that tells you who PERSONA_01 was. The replacement map is the optional exception: a separate file recording which real value each label replaced. You use it to restore the real data in your AI's answer.
With the map, the result is pseudonymisation, not anonymisation. While the map exists the process can be reversed, so the data is still personal data (in the EU, GDPR art. 4(5)). That's why the output file is named .seudonimizado and the side panel shows ⚠ Seudonimización (mapa ON). More in anonymisation vs. pseudonymisation.
Turn it on in Preferences → Salida, with the Mapa button in Quick mode, or with Guardar el mapa in the review.
It's saved encrypted (…MAPA-CONFIDENCIAL.anonmap) with a password you choose when you turn it on: 12 characters or more; a phrase of 4 or 5 words works well.
Anonimizar doesn't store that password. If you lose it, the map can't be opened and there's no way to recover it. Keep it in your password manager.
Treat the map like the original document: don't share it alongside the anonymised one.
You used the anonymised document with your AI and got an answer with PERSONA_01, LUGAR_03… In Revertir (or recuperar los datos reales on the start screen) each label goes back to its real value.
Documentos con tokens (Documents with tokens): choose one or more files, or Pegar texto (Paste text) with the AI's answer.
Mapa de reemplazos: choose the .anonmap you saved when anonymising and type its password. Several documents from the same case can share one map.
Click Revertir.
A Word file is reverted by editing the document you got back, so tables, styles, headers and footers are kept. Only if that output causes problems, tick Reconstruir desde texto plano (Rebuild from plain text).
The output (.CON-DATOS-REALES) contains real data: treat it like the original. Pasted text is reverted on screen and not saved to disk.
Processing record Estudio
In the review, Guardar ficha (Save record) writes a .INFO-ANONIMIZACION.json file next to the output with the date, version, counts and your review settings (groupings and items you left visible). It documents what was done and who decided it, for example for your data protection officer.
The record doesn't contain the anonymised values. With the map on, it also includes the groupings with their values and is named .INFO-CONFIDENCIAL.json: treat it like the map.
Preferences
Open them with the Preferencias button at the bottom of the side panel. Changes apply when you click Guardar (Save).
Salida (Output)
Where: in a subfolder next to each original (by default anonimizados), next to the original, or in a fixed folder.
Format: Word (.docx), Markdown (.md) or plain text (.txt). The output is a new document rebuilt from the text: the original layout may not be kept.
Highlight tokens: marks each label (yellow background in Word, bold in Markdown).
Names in CAPITALS: better detection in signatures, case headings and lists. Recommended and on by default.
Amounts and percentages: replaced by MONTO_01 / PORCENTAJE_01. Off by default (they aren't personal data).
Exceptions: terms that are never anonymised, one per line (your firm, the court…). Case and accents are ignored, but the whole term must match. Copiar lista (Copy list) takes it to another computer.
Firm dictionaryEstudio: export the list to a file in a shared folder and import it on each computer, so everyone uses the same exceptions.
OCR, local AI and General
OCR and IA local have their own sections: OCR and local AI. General turns on the history (names, paths, dates and counts; never the content) and Buscar actualizaciones al abrir (Check for updates on launch; see Updates).
Scanned PDFs (OCR)
A scanned PDF is an image: there's no text to detect. To read it, turn on text recognition in Preferences → OCR:
OCR local (Tesseract): fast, ideal for clean scans. It's a free program installed separately; if it's missing, the app shows Cómo instalarlo (How to install it) with steps for Mac (Homebrew) and Windows.
Modelo de visión (Ollama) (Vision model): better with photos or low contrast, slower. It uses the same setup as the local AI; the app offers to download the recommended model.
Both run on your computer. With OCR off, PDFs without text are reported as not processed or as PARCIAL. Without installing anything, you can also convert the PDF to one with selectable text or to .docx and process that.
Local AI review
An optional second pass: a language model running on your computer (via Ollama) rereads the result looking for data that slipped through. It doesn't change the exported file: a report appears below the document with the line of each item that may be visible, so you can fix it yourself. It doesn't run in Quick mode.
On computers without a graphics card it can take from half a minute to several minutes per page; meanwhile the list shows «fragmento i de N» (chunk i of N).
How to install Ollama, download the model and turn it on, step by step with screenshots: Turn on local AI.
License and plans
Without a license, the app works as a free trial of 15 files, one at a time. The side panel shows how many you have left.
Profesional: up to 10 individual documents per batch and the replacement map.
Estudio: also whole folders and batches, Agrupar, the record and the shared dictionary.
Full comparison in plans and pricing; all six license types (trial, Professional, Firm, student, Firm trial and partner), what each gives and how to request it, in license types. Paid licenses are perpetual and include new versions released during the 12 months after purchase.
Temporary licenses
The student license, the Firm plan trial and the partner license have an end date. A month before, the app shows how many days are left. After that date there are 21 days of grace in which everything keeps working; then the app stops processing documents until you install a new license. The Firm plan trial also adds a watermark to the output. Partners renew by writing to hola@anonimizar.app.
Install your license
After buying you get an .anonlic file by email.
In the app: ¿Ya compraste? Instalá tu licencia (Already bought? Install your license) on the start screen, Instalar licencia… if the license notice appears, or Acerca de → Actualizar licencia if you renewed.
Choose the file. Done: your plan shows at the top of the side panel. The license is checked on your computer, offline.
If the app says your license isn't valid, it keeps working as a trial. Write to hola@anonimizar.app with the diagnostics (see Common problems) and we'll send you a new one.
Updates
Anonimizar doesn't go online unless you ask it to, so it doesn't update itself either. Click the version number (bottom of the side panel) or Acerca de → Buscar actualizaciones; if there's a new version, it installs with one button and the app restarts. Your license and settings are kept.
Anonymise yes / no for the current item and move on.

Common problems
A PDF comes out empty, PARCIAL or «not processed»
It's a scanned PDF (an image, no text). Turn on OCR and process it again, or convert it to a PDF with selectable text.
An item was left visible
In the review, select it in the text and use Anonimizar selección. If it keeps happening with one data type, tell us (without sending the real document) at hola@anonimizar.app. The local AI review helps catch them.
Something was anonymised that didn't need to be (the court, my firm)
Mark it No for this document or Nunca for all of them. Exceptions are edited in Preferences → Detección.
I lost the map password
There's no way to recover it: Anonimizar doesn't store it. That map can no longer be opened. The anonymised document is still usable; to revert a new one, create a new map.
It says «Función del plan Estudio» or won't process several at once
The trial processes one document at a time, Profesional up to 10 individual files and Estudio folders and batches. See License and plans.
«No se pudo iniciar el motor» (the engine couldn't start)
Try Reintentar (Retry). If it persists, close and reopen the app; if it still fails, reinstall the latest version from the download page (your license and settings are kept) and write to us.
The «Cómo configurarlo» or «Ayuda» buttons don't open anything
They open this website in your default browser. If your computer has none set, or a company policy blocks it, go to anonimizar.app/ayuda by hand.
How to ask for help
In Acerca de, Copiar diagnóstico (Copy diagnostics) copies the version, system and license status, with no data from your documents. Paste it in an email to hola@anonimizar.app and tell us what happened. Don't send us real documents: if an example is needed, we'll make up a fictitious one.
More questions about the product (privacy, formats, pricing) in the FAQ.
